This webinar will explain the classic community land trust governance model, as well as variations in board and membership structures. Different approaches to CLT governance will be illustrated with examples from Canadian CLTs; the implications of these governance decisions will also be explored.

This webinar will cover the basics of incorporating as a not-for-profit in Canada, including provincial vs. federal incorporation, the incorporation process, and responsibilities as an incorporated not-for-profit. Key decisions to make in developing CLT by-laws will also be explored, illustrated with examples from Canadian CLTs.

CLTs & Charitable Status

This webinar will explore the benefits, responsibilities, and limitations that come with having charitable status as a community land trust. Lessons from CLTs with charitable status will be shared, along with tips for applying for charitable status. The webinar will also cover possibilities for partnerships between charities and non-profits.
